I can't figure out if it's a red nose or an attempt of swallowing a ding dong.

He's nice. But does anyone else feel that a massive entertainment company like Disney labeling some of their products as 'designer toys' is trying to muscle in on the phenomena that by its nature has something of an outsider ethos? I mean Disney & Co. have been making toys for, well forever, yet when the art toy movement comes along they conveniently hitch a ride. Or am I just a snob!!! O_O
I do have to say I own a Cheshire Cat and I love him, but then it isn't really a Disney character though they do own the rights... -

Aren't the Toy Story characters designed by Pixar? Disney (Walt Disney Pictures) is the huge distributor for the films etc.
And these being made my Medicom in my opinion make them designer toys to some extent.
Peeps buying them tells them they made the right decision to "hitch a ride" ;) -

I agree Shellie, and I think Vinylmation are hella lame.

I'm shocked Mindstyle has slowed down on riding the Disney train. That was their little cash cow

I'm just saying Disney is very mainstream while the artists I like are the ones who made the designer toy movement what it is today like Frank Kozik, Andrew Bell, Kathie Olivas, Nathan Jurevicius. Maybe not outsider art but certainly edgy, strange and at times dark...
-

Or just plain odd sometimes lol...
-

Edgy designer toys ARE mainstream anymore. XD
-

Designer toys aren't mainstream yet. Maybe in the US it might seem like it, but in Europe they really aren't mainstream - although their popularity is growing fast.

seconded, to the point its impossible to even buy a blind box dunny anywhere in Sweden

Really? Then there is hope yet, yay! I live in Australia and only a relatively small number of people are into art toys...

And there are only a handful of specialist shops, grrr!!! =1

I wouldn't usually upload an action figure but I was excited about this one :)
I used to LOVE Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles as a kid and I had lots of the action figures.
Recently I discovered in 95 they had a series of the Turtles interpreted by artist Jim Lee! obviously I had to jump on eBay and get one :P
fortunately it's very nice.
strangely, only three of four of the turtles were produced even though all four were planned - for some reason the Leonardo figure never made it to production. -

Hey... it's a toy, man! Toys are FUN! I remember these-- nice sculpts-- VERY 90's-- in a good way!!!
Did you ever see the Super Mutant Turtles done like anime characters? Those were pretty cool looking... especially the Shredder from that series.
Here's a great site that has almost all of the TMNT figures from 1988-2009: http://www.tmnttoys.com/ -

I was going to go for her, but I just got Princess and it has literally the worst quality I have ever seen on any figure... and I own over 1,500. Never buying from 3A again >.<
-
2 questions. Do you own any other 3A figures? Did you know that 3A is sending replacements for the Princess due to pain chipping on some figures?
-
Yes I do, and I still think it's totally ridiculous that they mailed her out. My main issues aren't even with the pain, which isn't chipping, it's actually peeling because the quality is so cheap. Her actual body is shiny plastic and they just stuck a matte layer of paint over for whatever reason instead of mixing her actual body matte.
For an action figure her joints are useless: she doesn't bend fully at the waist, hips, knees, shoulders or elbows. This means she can't sit. And her heels make it nearly impossible to balance, yet she doesn't come with a stand so I don't even know how you are supposed to display her. Propped up against something? She's also made of painfully cheap materials, including the dress. Oh, and for some reason the top of her torso is made of soft vinyl (presumably so you can squish her boobs?) which is odd because vinyl dolls/action figures are incredibly high quality. It's just weird that the ONE part of her they went all out on was the boobs... but of course the soft vinyl doesn't even fully cover the torso joint. To top it all off the paint on her hair is thick. Way too many problems for a single figure. -
13 years ago
That really doesn't sound like a higher end designer toy..
In my opinion all those joints looks really bad when not covered up and if even the fabrics used are cheap, is the quality gone backward in the threeA pieces?
