I think, if there was only one girl (with axe) - would be much better.
I know about this art, but in vinyl it does not look so cool. IMHO. ) -

this is going to be so awesome next to my parra pierced, i agree with Honestcrooks that this is up there. Too bad the edition is 1000 ? but this will mean 1000 people can enjoy this figure !

Where you took info about the quantity? This is a trusted source?
1000 it is too many, this figure will be sold for a lower price on eBay. -

tremor is right.. this is too many. 200 would be ok, not 1000..((

only bad thing is that hardly any came to europe, where most of mcbess fans are.
-
-
If you are talking about "unlimited", there are only 159 still available from the kidrobot.com shop... ;-) So apparently, this will be sold out pretty soon :-)
-
1,000 is pretty limited for a big global release.
The coarse mini omens were limited to 800 pieces, and they are already pretty hard to come by at a decent price.
Anyway surely its about how much you love the design, not how limited/flippable the piece is? -
11 years ago
I'm a collector, I hunt for a collectible items. So limited edition has great importance for me, as for any collector I suppose. I like good designer toys, but good & rare designer toys I like much more. )
-
So the perceived value of the piece is as important to you as the design?
-
Yes. Do you have another opinion?
-
Its not an opinion, it was an honest question. I'm always interested to find out why people collect what they collect.

I Agree it's pricey for a 1000 edition piece but then again we don't know how much of each KAWS figure is produced aswell, and people pay top dollar for that. Is that perceived as a non collectible then or is that different because everybody wants it ?
-
-
Of course an edition is a relative value, and 1000 still limited. But as I know McBess not such famous artist. I don't understand where KR took the number of the edition. And I don't understand why KR made excitement around the figure. May be KR just tried to catch success wave of Dunny Evolved Series and Mermaid figure.
-
Maybe they had to make a minimum of 1000 pieces to keep the piece affordable. It's a 2 piece, 10" statue with a extra prop and a whole lot of detail. I can imagine the production cost of this being a bit higher than let's say a 8" dunny.
Anyhow, it's true that 1000 might be a bit on the high side but even if it was a ediion of 10.000, I would've bought one nonetheless. It's an amazing and affordable 3D form of his art.
And McBess is a well known artist here in Europe. Unbelievable that they made what, only 50 (?) available here? -
11 years ago
I was just typing up a reply, but HonestCrooks said exactly what I was about to say in a much more concise way.
So what he said :) -
I haven't been aware of McBess for long, but from what I've seen, I'm personally VERY impressed. Also, with all the new toys being released by McBess, popularity will increase quite quickly I think.
Also, when an artist isn't 'hugely' known, advertising & flaunting a toy seems like the logical choice. That way, numerous non-fans see it, become fans, and thus increase the fan-base.
Thus, i say, flaunt the hell out of new toys! -

This guy can sculpt!
After seeing what an amazing work he did on the Brain Bug Boogie-Man I seriously can't wait to play with this huge monster.
His sculpt is so incredibly detailed that a paint job probably just would spoil the fun. Haven't seen details like this since the Restore resins.

What do people think of ultra detailed sculpts? For me, it isn't what I am really into when I want to buy an 'art toy'/sofubi. There are some insane vinyl kits out there of ultra detailed monsters and creatures and I feel they have their own world outside of the relm or art toys.
I still want this piece though! -

Detailed sculpts isn't a quality in itself for me. I think I know which figures out there you're talking about and they're not my taste either.
In this case however it works amazingly well - for me! -

With a toy like this with no dominate color, I would usually leave it blank. But it looks like the color field is being used to distinguish the different versions.
-
-
The colour field is used to group the toys into colour groups when sorting a list view. This is more red than anything else so it is grouped in red. That way when you list toys they are grouped together in similar colours. Lots of people will only collect toys of certain colours. Colours, should be red, blue, green, yellow, black, white, purple, pink etc. Not beige, rainbow, camo, burgundy etc.
I don't make the rules I simply help in force them.
And do not call me simple -

I mostly agree with Dan, but I don't have a problem with color combinations like rainbow, camo, monochrome, etc. As long as it's an established thing that everyone understands. I mean, who has a problem with this:

"Childhood nostalgia" isn't normally what I think of with Keyes. It's all about tension and conflicting elements. I think it doesn't work as sculpture because some detail is lost and his art depends a lot on realism. Plus the water looks stupid.

I think the elephant bothers me more than the water. The animals in his prints look so life like, yet the elephant in this sculpt just doesn't look right. Maybe its the sculpting/sculptor thats the issue.

You can still get it from Target Earth (until midnight Japan time today, I believe) by sending an email to shono-kikaku@m1.ffn.ne.jp. Their forwarding service is unfortunately a bit pricier, $100 plus international shipping.

I'm not sure this paint scheme was actually produced. I bought one that used the above image but actually came looking like this:
http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MTAyNFg3Njc=/z/hwAAAMXQydtTPhpG/$_57.JPG
Pretty close, and still a great toy, but the colors are different. I think we should change this pic unless someone can verify that the one in the original was ever for sale.

Yep, that's the same one. Above pic is a prototype, but it looks very different in person. Prototype is better, though. Brighter and more color contrast.

Or better yet; let's keep this one in the library but change the type to 'prototype' and add a new entry for the one you both have.
So the information stays in the library and we maybe avoid the proto being uploaded again and again.
Win win.
