I called the owner of Toykyo today. They recently told me that they have collectors who purchase every sculpture they make. So i guess they get contacted first. The previous birds were for sale at Toykyo for +-$500 each, Colette sold them for +-$1080 :-s and they were gone in no time. The new birds are $400 each + shipping.
Let me know if you want to buy one, i can call right away.

Vera, listen, please...I don't have an issue about other people's semi-personal comments. I love them! Sil and I did that, but some people were annoyed. As far as I see it, it makes Roto alive. It's not like the clever comments are standing in queue!!!! Mostly it's just ; "I love this..blah blah".... But the moment people are getting personal, it's all : GET A ROOM! . Roto was meant to connect people, right?

actually, I am terribly unlucky with shoes :-( I have tiny feet indeed, but not enough tiny for those beautiful red shoes... I just bought them online and unfortunately they are too small. I love them a lot, so they might end up as... display shoes, haha. lesson learnt: never buy shoes online, buy only toys :-)

@ penguin: i gotta agree, it looks bigger than i expected as well, but as vera said, she has tiny feet, hence the shoes are tiny, too ;)
@vera: may i ask for your shoe size? your feet might look like baby ones next to a 10 1/5 - 11
and can't you exchange those ones for a size bigger or was that an ebay auction and not an online store???

I got a case at Newbury comics .. straight forward layout & ratios. Just got my case from KR (for huck variant) but it was an unsealed case and all my numbers were off. Got 4 zombies, two mishka eyeballs, 4 kronks ... was missing a lot of 1/20's.

  • FuriousPurpose angel

    FuriousPurpose

    262 92 17

For those who asked, KR allowed me to select 12 new blind boxes from a sealed case. (They took back 9 of this design, plus because in that same case there were so many other dupes they allowed me to return 3 of those too, = the 12 replacements)

If anyone's interested from that 12 I got 8 of the missing designs, plus some extra dupes of Squink, Dirty Donny, & the Zombie.

Pretty pleased with the way KR responded to this, not sure others have been so lucky in the past, but they did seem to think this was an exceptionally bad case, so I was fortunate in the end.

Am I the only one that doesn't go nuts for unpainted vinyl? I have a couple pieces, but they're by no means my favorites. For me the paint job is half the appeal, if not more.

If the shapes and forms are good, then I sometimes like them unpainted,or with a restrained paint job.But a cool colour scheme can add so much.
Depends on the figure really :)

Finally got my set today. Very nice. Good and solid, maybe a little heavier than Greasebat. The sections pop on and off easily. I love the colorway, I hope they're all garish like this.

Should there be a differentiation between vinyl and japanese vinyl?

I think the differentiation between vinyl and Japanese vinyl is just fine. It's easier for people who want to search for a specific type of figure and in my opinion it can be considered a different material: it's not just usually lighter, glossier and has more details, but the manufacturing process and even the ingredients vary slightly (Jap vinyl is unhealthier, yay).

The only thing one could merge would be Japanese vinyl, soft vinyl and sofubi, which is basically the same (but would be kind of a lot of work and I don't know if it would make sense to do so).

I'm happy with the above classification if everyone agrees. Could take a lot of tag updating though :)

Yes, I agree with LB. There certainly is a difference. Take one of your Dunnys in one hand and one of your Pocket Mummy Boys in the other. No comparison. Japan stuff has the feeling. Dunnys seem "dead".
Why else would an esteemed company like S7 choose to have their toys entirely produced in Japan?
Obviously there is a difference. But LB is right, Japanese vinyl, soft vinyl and sofubi is more or less the same.

Actually you'll find Japanese and Sofubi under "Type" tag as well.

I suggest we keep one entry for Type: Sofubi.
And one entry for material: Soft Vinyl.

    That way we have both

Just one thing; we mods have to keep our eyes peeled when new uploads are coming in. But it isn't that a big thing.

(OK, I see Dan was faster, than I was :) )

I don't think sofubi is a type. Sofubi just means "soft vinyl." I think a Mummy Boy is just a designer toy. I think the material should be sofubi and the type should be whatever is appropriate, usually designer toy or kaiju.

I think Shank actually nailed it pretty precise here...

Certainly there's a difference between designer toys and kaijus.

    Everybody happy?

If you google the name of the toy and a bunch of stills from old Japanese movies show up, it's a kaiju.

Err.. but aren't they called "sofvi" now...? Maybe we should reconsider the whole thing?? ;O/

I think the type should be removed all together or just a ‘family’ term: vinyl/plush/resin/3D printed

As so many designers/stores/collectors are referring to Japanese made vinyl as Sofubi now, I think the material for all should be changed to sofubi.... then again, it might all be called 'Super Flexible Magical Plastic' next year so you'll have to change it all over again.

Sofvi/sofubi/japanese vinyl = all the same thing. You can get soft vinyl out of China though.
