This should help work out if he's real or not....

If you look closely, you can spot a number of differences:

    1. The real qee has a red star on its left arm, and the fake one does not.

    2. The real qee has a thicker, smoother keyring than the fake qee does.

    3. The yellow stripe in the rainbow on the fake qee’s chest is much wider.

    4. The real qee has black marks on its left ear, and the fake qee does not.

    5. The real qee has a pink heart on it’s left cheek, and the fake qee does not.

Just wait a few more months, don't support any flippers and the price will come back down. This toy is "trendy" right now so everyone is out to make a quick buck, but if no one pays these insane prices then there won't be as many ridiculous eBay listings.

It's disappointing that so many Roses get sold to flippers, but it gives me hope when I see that the vast majority of the recent releases aren't getting any bids (or are sold for roughly the retail price).

  • CoMus angel

    CoMus

    171 468 619

OMG no!!! please be VERY careful!

It WILL melt/warp.... The temperature will depend on the additives added to the material. I have no idea how grimsheep managed to "get away" with it...... unless he is saying it for shits and giggles.

Do what you like but either way I would HIGHLY recommend you NOT put it in a oven you use to prepare food (or around any food) the fumes are VERY toxic.

You will not be able to set any oven setting polymer clay (sculpey) so use air dry variety like La Doll and avoid the destruction of your toy and you health.

  • grimsheep

    grimsheep

    263 189 3

I am not saying the vinyl is not toxic, especially if heated. But at that temperature for that short a time it will not melt or burn and I have yet to hear of any ill coming of it.

Super Sculpey adheres well to the vinyl and sets quite nicely in this fashion. Given the temperature asked about I assume that is the plan.

I'm not a chemist but I imagine your stove will be safe and of course it wouldn't hurt to keep your kitchen well ventilated :)

There are also good 2 part epoxy clays like Aves Apoxie Sculpt that work quite nicely without heating and are bulletproof when set.

Ahhh Fliphappy, so fast to shoot your "guns" when I was just trying to help..... I am familiar with it; its my job. There is no need to be openly rude about it.

Grimsheep, is correct, short time will be fine but you are playing with fire. Use a non heating clay and it will be the best bet.

If you truly believe that vinyl has no level of toxicity just because the box didn't say it, go ahead breath it all in.

Edit: Considering you are saying munny has preformed to be bake proof, I would be more worried about the additives.

  • CoMus angel

    CoMus

    171 468 619

Wow, you really are quite serious, calm down please. Like I said, I am just trying to help.

I am talking about safety because its very important. Vinyl will melt in a oven, I also stated in my first comment that it is dependant on the additives. I edited my post to also reflect that, clearly there are heat resistance additives. I have never put a vinyl toy in the oven, this is true! but I do know about its material properties.

In regards to your comment about reading comprehension, how am I supposed to comprehend this comment:

"Unless you see a toxic warning on the munny box that I've never noticed, stop talking about a process you've very obviously not at all familiar with."

    You also previously said:

"which is non-toxic when baked correctly, according to their instructions"

I responded to that directly, are you trying to say those comments are not in regards to toxicity? Your only knowledge of the subject is what is written on the box?

I joined in on this conversation to say two things. It will melt/warp, if it is true it can survive a bake cycle of sculpey, I was wrong on that aspect. Yet my main concern is the health issue, a good warning and something to tell someone about if they are going to attempt it.

You may have not read or been told of someone being sick from sticking vinyl in the oven but it is harmful.

In regards to my job, if you care to know. I professionally an industrial designer, yet I also undertook a masters in environmental design. I have worked with companies to reduce their products material/process impact towards health/environment.

If you are so concerned about fellow users of this site, what's with all the hate towards me? This is a conversation! Not a war, there is no right or wrong. Just concerns.

well, well, well if you are so concerned about safety you should have mentioned not to use same plates for food and toys/clay than vapors. and it's 2010 and companies won't risk putting no warning signs on the products if they were dangerous.
i put munnies in 130°C on regular basis without any colour/shape changes at all. i would recommend using baking paper and avoid fimo.

@aargh Sadly enough companies don't put all the relevant safety warning on their packaging. Even so, it would be very hard to put together a liability suit towards a vinyl toy company in regards to this topic.

It doesn't make it safe just because its not written on the package.

You would be very surprised at the amount of unsafe procedures companies "risk" these days. There is too much going on in regards to health, environment and safety to keep up! Its generally not their fault. Also legislation is very behind and a very tricky matter.

It seems a few people do this, its still not a safe practice but who am I kidding, artist have been putting themselves in harms way for years with the equipment they use.

    @elissa_s enjoy! please post results!

I've already done one custom, but it's just a paint & Sharpie creation... thought I'd branch out a little with the next one :)

Ahh cool! Well if you are keen to share, link a pic once its done (would love to see your paint + sharpie creation also)

I love how a mini sharpie is boxed with it :D I should do something on mine I guess :P

I went looking for it for this post. I also found a whole bunch of toys I completely forgot packed away :D

Yeah, but the marker that is boxed with it is a bit too thick to do anything intricate with it unfortunately. I finally finished the paint/Sharpie one a couple of weeks ago, after starting it possibly last year :P anyway, as I'm a very passionate Incubus fan, it's kinda Incubus themed :D I'll get it up on Flickr tonight.
Oh, and toys packed away?! :O toys should be out in their shiny vinyl glory, to be enjoyed! :D

I know! but I used to work in a toy store so I didn't want to feel like I was working at home! I was also buying too much for my display space.

I mostly collected Japanese trading figures and gashapon. I had to stop after about a six months of buying a box each week, opening it, look at it for the night, then pack it up and then store it away... I sold most of it as completed sets at work when I moved about 2 years ago, really want it all back now :P

In the end, I had enough joy from reading jap toy mags and getting in new toy shipments. Only really picked up buying again this year.

Fair enough... I can't be doing with having toys stored away though :)
