When adding platform tag to the custom toy you can only sort customs, not all the toys. That's why platform tag doesn't help here to show all of the Garurus.

Stop hatin' on keychains! :P
-

keychain=accessory :P
-
Qees have keychain attachments so they can be worn as accesories. Your point is moot.
-
is not. they come unassembled, so keychaining qee is an option. you can wear almost anything as a keychain, but you wouldn't put in your toy collection. and the point was that this revoltech is much more a collectible toy than a keychain.
-
I think a debate could go on for ages about what can be deemed a toy suitable for Rotocasted, but I thought Rotocasted started for collectible toys i.e. art toys and designer vinyl. I wouldn't class this figure as either. It's an anime related action figure, which I class as something completely different... but then again, the 'Type' tag is there to differentiate between all the toys and their kind, so I don't see why all toys can't be on this site as long as their correctly tagged as whatever kind of toy they are. I was just saying about the keychains thing, because everyone by now is probably aware of my slight Yummy Breakfast addiction, and although it is a keychain, I see them as mini art toys, because of their humble beginnings as Heidi Kenney's handmade felt creations. Then obviously Kidrobot got involved and saw the potential to bring her creations to a wider audience.
I just clicked on the 'Keychain' tag to see what else I can make examples of, and although I can't stand Kaws, the keychains of his are in a way, shrunk versions of his actual art toys, which is pretty good for people who can't shell out hundreds for one of his proper figures. Anyway, I could write all day about this, but I think I've got my point across. -

The problem is some things should definitely be on here and some things definitely shouldn't, and then there are a lot of of things that maybe could be on here. But once you put the grey area stuff, then the things that shouldn't be here start appearing.
Am I making myself clear? :p
I, for one, think mascots and advertising figures are a definite no no. Others are strictly against toys of characters from movies or comics. It gets complicated.
The toy world itself is pretty ambiguous and we've been having this discussion in different forms for a while. -
-
Isn't the whole movement a little bit of a grey area? The whole idea is to find the essence of toys and make art with that essence in mind, if I understand it correctly and if you don't accept toys as art you've kinda missed the point and it's all about wether or not some one tells you it's a cool, rare and expensive piece rather than up to your own tastes. Of course this makes it impossible for me to objectively dismiss toys that I personally don't like…
There are a lot of things here that might clearly be art, but that aren't toys, like for instance the busts of Mao with Mickey Mouse ears. That should fall within the grey area aswell (or even be immediately dismissed), since it's a sculpture rather than a toy.
My opinion is, allow everything, but make it easy to sort through it with clear classifications and such as. People will always have different opinions as to what is art and what is beautiful.
But then again, I'm new here… :) -

Mixed about this one. I want it to add to my Junko collection at the same time it's just... blah. Obviously it's not doing too good since it's still available on KidRobot since it's release. Seen it on amazon a few times with the price as low as $19.95.

The Rotocasted 10K Toy Celebration!
In celebration of Rotocasted's upcoming 10,000th toy, we are having a special community giveaway.
Here's how it works:
1. Go to your toys and choose a figure you want to give away.
2. Type [10K toy] in the comments section of the toy's page. [Example: http://rotocasted.com/toy/943... />3. Then, go to the "10K Celebration" page [http://rotocasted.com/toy/10576] and post the link to your 10K-toy. This way we have all the raffle toys in one place.
4. Add the "10K Celebration" toy page to your wishlist to be eligible to be one of the winners.
5. Now, keep on adding toys to the library to make it to 10,000!
In January 2011 (when the postal service is not as busy), we will select as many winners as there are 10K-toys provided and connect both parties. A special prize will go to the person who posts the landmark toy number 10,000! Good luck!

sergey, I have an arithmetics dilemma: because this 10K Celebration entry is listed as a designer toy and therefore counts as 1 toy, I guess the real 10.000 toy in the database will be number 1001, right?

We will need to reach 10k again when we will move Action figures and maybe Kaiju to some other place.
-
-
What would classify it as a "designer toy"? Action figures are an easy spot but taking out kaiju? Its just Japanese for monster/strange creature.
I can understand if its a mass produced toy like http://rotocasted.com/library... but what about kaiju toys like http://rotocasted.com/toy/8015/ and http://rotocasted.com/library... />
I would consider the designer toy classification be something like this: "a designer toy is something (plush/vinyl/resin) that has been produced purely on its own form, not created for an established licensed property (movie/tvseries/comics)" but then where do most of the kubricks/bearbricks stand?
I wonder how many would be moved to another category? Then how far off it would be from the "real" 10k!
Edit: Having all the Kaiju in one place would be really neat, I just consider them still designer toys :P -
14 years ago
In regards to what number 10k is, why not make this the 10k toy when its replaced.
Special custom 10k Godot IMO, how about that Sergey? -

Saw Buff Monster at Dcon today. My 6-1/2 year old daugther walked up to him (no line up or anything) and asked him to sign her mini munny (which was already full of signatures from other artists) and one of his ice cream thingy toys, and he totally shooed her away. He said "nope, nope, I'm done, go away". What an ass. :(

Can someone explain the difference between a custom and a one-off for me again please? And explain why this is a one-off and not a custom. Thanks.
-
Well I could be wrong, but I think this guy would be considered a custom. A one off is a production piece made in an edition of only one. An example would be a lot of figures by motorbot. He releases a sculpt in a bunch of one off color ways. A custom on the other hand is a figure originally created by someone, and then customized by someone else.

I totally agree with your definition, but done is done. It's irreversible now. :(
But please do us all a favour and mention it, like you did right now, and we will turn things back to "normal". :) -
