To soften the vinyl use a hairdryer. I've never tried it myself (my hair's too short - I don't need a dryer!), but it seems to be the trick on different toy sites.

I think it's wonderful that you have two words for slug in English. Here in Denmark we don't differentiate between Slug and Snail. Danish; Snegl.
We don't care if that tiny creature has a shield/ house on his back or not! They're all Snails :p -

The only German toy store I know of would be Toykio in Düsseldorf, if I'm not completely mistaken right now. But you could try your luck with some random urban or comic book stores, but chances are pretty small indeed ;-)
