Is this a clear red vinyl or is that some awesome red chrome paint on its face?
-
I believe it's a clear red vinyl spray painted.
This figure is rad! I missed on other Mongolions, but this one is a must-have! -
14 years ago
It is clear red vinyl. It's meant to compliment the Burning Anger Stomp, and is traditional Chinese colors of red, gold and teal.

via http://www.flickr.com/photos/... />Yamomark purchased some vintage molds from a factory. The original maker is unknown.
This is a Grumble Toy HP version painted by Chris Bryan of Grumble Toy. The paints are clear pearl's that allow the glow to show through. Yay!

Something about that story makes it really fun. Saved from the clutches of a dusty factory floor to live on once again.

he is a reviewer, working for a toy blog, as far as I know. that's how :-)
-
its all for exposure, create hype, inform people that normally wouldn't follow your work. Also for me reviews help, especially for colour. Sometimes its very hard to see how vibrant or how well colours blend together from a flat photograph.
I have passed many variants due to the photos then realise how fantastic they are in person.... when they cost so much more T_T -
14 years ago
Hype is such a dirty word and what you said is all true but hype is not what I was referring to.
Mostly I would regard it all as community development and community development is always a good thing, such as this site, its fantastic.
If there wasn't anyone reviewing/talking about colour variants, it would become a bland community, especially in regards to collaborative work.
Also designers are networking whores :P so they love to work with various people such as bloggers/curators/photographers/lion tamers/collectors to expand their network. -
14 years ago
Yeah but hype was only one word I used, my initial post was about how reviewers can help in regards to colour variants. I thought I made it clear when I said I wasn't referring to hype directly. Yet, either way, any exposure creates hype.
I guess I hold community development close to heart; I produce a local rag, run a few design exhibitions and currently trying to up the local interest in designer toys. Every little bit helps!
I don't think reviews are pointless and I don't think the toys would go to waste either. It would be safe to say any toy blogger would be a fan, majority of them do it for free or little pay. Its how they can be a contributor without being a designer. As a blogger it would be fantastic to get a colour variant before anyone else for a report/review.
Personally I don't like or read traditional reviews, I prefer reports, just the facts rather than opinions. Especially regarding colour variants.
I guess we have completely different views on the subject. Its interesting to hear other sides and its good subject to debate on. -
14 years ago
Oh and I do completely agree lesser known designs need the support rather than designs that already have a hold on collectors heart.

I want this toy because it's iconic, striking, and cool! :)
-
-
First off, this is awesome you are doing this!
With so many awesome toys in the world, it’s hard to see them all. Thanks to the wonder that is Rotocasted, I get to see toys that I wouldn't normally.
Why would I want this? Well, this is the first time I am seeing this toy. I may be well out of the loop but I don’t know the artist, designer or the manufacture. Yet, I have fallen in love with this toy as is, not caring who the designer is, if they have a name for themselves or how it will reflect who I am as a consumer. I just want to play with it and have it in my collection.
Saying that, I am now interested in finding more about the artists and manufacture. This is a tight piece and I want to see more from whoever was involved, time to google! -

Picked one of these up recently from Minty ^^ Excellent service on their part and whilst I really love the form (Arkiv produced a cool character here for sure), the quality of the thing is poor i.e. AdFunture, more effort required!
For 40 euro's its just about passable, but at the original price (double what I paid), I'd be very annoyed if this was what I received! It's not QC issues I am talking about either, its just outright quality on the whole, The vinyl is thin and passes light, the colour application, mainly coloured vinyl with a bit of white paint, lazy production IMO, in hand it reminds me of a dog chew toy. -

I agree Moose. I have three of these, including a D-Lux custom, and they all look fantastic. But you can tell immediately that the material is low quality. I'd like to hear from one of the Arkiv Sumo owners, to see if that figure is the same or if they used better vinyl.

Don't get me wrong, I'm still a fan of this figure, and at Minty's price it's well worth it. If this had been made from Japanese vinyl it would have retailed for $150 or more. The iffy vinyl kept it affordable.
Minty, who is the artist? -

Oh, and one last thing for tonight, can anyone specify what this is? I mean, is it just a clear sparkly glow in the dark variant? It just seems a bit out of place within the Jumping Brain area if you know what I mean :)
-
It looks like a clear cast w/ sparkles and GID paint on the interior wall. If that's the case, that is wild! I would love to see what it looks like in the light.
EDIT: I would say its this one http://rotocasted.com/toy/6332/ with GID paint on the interior wall. -
